Ashville's Cross Country competed well in Class 4A Region 3 Sectionals on Friday, November 2nd. Ashville's 3rd ranked Girls' team dominated their competition, coming in 1st place overall and advancing to the State Competition on November 10th.
Meghan McCarthy, Kathleen McCarthy, Taylor Knight, Molly Northam, Emma Thompson, and Grace Staples will travel to represent AHS at the State Meet on Saturday. Wyatt Knight will also advance to the State Meet on November 10th for placing 7th in overall Boys' individuals.
Ashville's Girls' team finished with a total time of 1:49.08, averaging 21:49.69 per athlete, defeating the runner-up, White Plains, whose total time rounded out to 1:51.30, averaging 22:18.01 per athlete.
Ashville's Girls' team competed aggressively over the course of the season, winning a county championship and moving on to 4A Region 3 Sectionals as a heavy favorite. Now, AHS Cross Country advances to State Competition with every runner achieving personal records in the process, foreshadowing positive performances at the State Meet.
Meghan McCarthy placed 2nd, Kathleen McCarthy placed 3rd, Taylor Knight placed 5th, Molly Northam placed 16th, Emma Thompson placed 17th, and Grace Staples placed 39th.
Meghan McCarthy feels confident about her team's position going into state competition on Saturday saying, "I think that right now we are young. Catholic Montgomery has some amazing runners, but if we continue moving forward like we have this year - and all stay healthy - state champs will definitely be in our future. We're shooting for Top 5 this year, but anything is possible."
