Ashville Volleyball Ready for Season Ahead

Ashville Volleyball recently returned from a volleyball camp at Auburn University directed by Auburn Head Volleyball Coach, Rick Nold.

"Coach Nold is experienced and disciplined, but he also knows how to build a team with great relationships and teamwork," said Ashville Varsity Volleyball Head Coach Mara Mattison after the camp. "We appreciate any opportunity for our girls to gain experience on the court as well as in building relationships that lead to success."

Ashville Varsity Volleyball Assistant Coach Denise Mattison believes that building relationships within the team is key to creating a competitive group. "We, as coaches, as well as players, are taking this time to get to know our freshmen. We also need our seniors to play cohesively and learn one another to play with leadership, determination, and spirit. We spent, as a team, over two hours talking and learning about each other to try to build a foundation on which we can construct success for the season."

Both coaches were optimistic about the upcoming season. "We are eager," Coach Denise Mattison said. "We played in a local tournament a couple of weeks ago and made it to the semifinals. We could have won the entire tournament, but we believe that this camp will help with that. We are in the building process to get better and better so that this program becomes a leader in our area. We want to make the Ashville Family proud."

Ashville Volleyball starts its season on August 31st at home as it hosts Lincoln and area opponent, Leeds.
